To: BBC News Complaint Site

From: Roberta Bronzatto

"I just saw a report about the killing of Jean Charles de Menezes, the Brazilian shot in the head by your police force. In fact, the news were not about his death, but it was said we were dramatizing the situation, as if it was not dramatic enough to be a legal immigrant in a country in which not only you are murdered, but also its authorities try to cover its mistake. It was specially offensive the suggestion we shouldn't be that outraged, if we took in consideration the fact the killing of Brazilians by their own police is not a "never happened" situation, and the suggestion our president is about to go to a impeachment process. First of all, it is true our police force is violent and corrupt, but that is not an excuse for London police behavior on the matter being discussed. If the situation was the opposite, you would be demanding some kind of intervention on our system for preventing something like that to happen again and every public demonstration of grieve would be more than justified. Second, impeachment is not being discussed yet, at least not officially, and official is all that matters to a news channel. So, I got to the conclusion what I saw was a sad attempt to deviate your audience's attention from the real problem, which is the fact that your police force can be as bad and incompetent, as well as corrupt, as ours. But it also seems the fact it killed a citizen of a third world country should be considered as an attenuating circumstance for its mistake."
